President Boakai Poised to act on WECC Joint Resolution from 55th Legislature

Monrovia, Liberia – The Joint Resolution from the Liberian Senate and House of Representatives requesting the creation of a War and Economic Crimes Court in Liberia has been formally delivered to President Joseph Boakai.

President Boakai has welcomed the resolution from members of the 55th Legislature and views the document as the first step in bringing justice for victims of the Liberian civil war, according to Presidential Press Secretary, Kula Fofana at an Executive Mansion press briefing on Monday, April 22, 2024, in Monrovia.

Recently, the Liberian Senate and House of Representatives members signed a Joint Resolution that demanded the creation of a court in order to address the nation’s culture of impunity.

According to the Presidential Press Secretary, the Liberian leader is anticipated to respond formally and make a firm choice regarding the resolution that is now before him at any point this year.

In order to provide the Liberian leader with information to make an informed judgment regarding the court’s establishment, Madam Fofana stated that the President’s team is presently examining the document.
