Monrovia, Liberia – President Joseph N. Boakai has rejected any increase in the price of the 25kg bag of Indian parboiled rice (5% broken) , and that prices stay the same while more research is done.
The Liberia Leader guaranteed the Liberian populace that there will be no increase in the price of rice on the Liberian market. This comment come after President Boakai meeting with the Rice Importer of Liberia on Tuesday, May 21, 2024.
The Liberian government, via the ministry of commerce and industry, stated on Monday, May 20, 2024, that the price of 25kg bag of Indian parboiled rice (5% broken) will now cost $18.50 instead of $16.75, according to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
According to the Commerce Ministry, the Ukrainian situation has caused disruptions in shipping routes through the Suez Canal, which has increased shipping expenses. These global issues have an impact on this choice. The export of Indian parboiled rice, in addition, is now subject to a new 20% export levy from the Indian government.
