President Boakai Stress the Need for Road Connectivity for Improve Trade in the Sub-Region

Dallas, Texas, USA – The necessity of road connectivity and network construction to enhance cross-border trade has been emphasized once again by Joseph Nyumah Boakai, President of the Republic of Liberia.

President Boakai stressed the importance of building relationships within the sub-region to improve trade, while speaking on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at the opening ceremony of the US Africa Business Summit in Dallas, Texas, USA. He added that if Liberia 15 counties are connected by excellent roads with neighboring countries, trading between countries will be easy.

According to the Liberian leader, the lack of efficient road network links in the country makes it impossible for there to be effective economic commerce or communication across borders, particularly in unstable region.

While mentioning his agenda list, President Boakai added that transportation of agricultural produce and regional trade would be impossible without a robust road network.

In addition, he stated that it is critical to establish effective communication channels and positive ties with neighboring nations. Noting that, good road networks and increased security will foster positive ties between the border countries and the southeastern region of Liberia.

”Guinea, Sierra Leone, and the Ivory Coast are all neighbors to Liberia. There is a lot of business and ties since citizens of ours reside in all of these areas. We came with the ARREST Agenda because one of the things we need to enhance is connectivity (the roads). Roads come in second to agriculture.”

”Given the volume of cross-border trade and security, connectivity is crucial. Good communication would not be possible without a robust road network and border connectivity, particularly in unstable areas.”

President Boakai asserted that keeping up a first-rate road network and fortifying border relations are essential. According to him, his government’s top goals right now include building more roads, improving communication, and encouraging business development in the southern area.

President Boakai made these statements when he serve as a panelist during the presidential plenary section along with three (3) other African leaders at he US Africa Business Summit in Dallas Texas, USA.
