President Boakai Threaten to Shutdown Western Cluster

Monrovia, Liberia – The Western Cluster Mining Company, which mines iron ore in Bomi County, western Liberia, has been threatened with closure by Liberia President, Joseph N. Boakai Sr. Western Cluster has come under fire for failing to provide benefits to the people and instead using the county’s motor road to transport minerals.

Elenilto Minerals & Mining, a global mining and exploration company, is the parent company of Western Cluster Limited. One of Western Cluster’s primary projects, the Bomi Hills Iron Ore Project is situated in Bomi County and is where the firm is conducting exploration and feasibility studies. The company also holds exploration and mining licenses for numerous other iron ore deposits in Liberia. Located in Grand Cape Mount County, it also features the Mano River Iron Ore Project.

Its name comes from the region it serves in the west of the nation, known as The Western Cluster, which includes Mano River, Bea Mountain, and Bomi Hills. An historic railway line that connects Monrovia on the coast to Mano River in the north is where the deposits are dispersed. With an annual production of 30 million tons, the Western Cluster is projected to have a 3 billion tons iron ore potential. Hematite, magnetite, martite, limonite, and quartz make up the ore.

The company will be shut down, according to President Boakai, in order to preserve the Monrovia to Tubmanburg Highway’s bridges and motorway.

Bomi County residents are still complaining that the business isn’t fulfilling its corporate social responsibility. Like with other mining enterprises across the nation, Western Cluster Mining Company’s situation is the same. Liberians are still complaining about these enterprises’ terrible labor practices, weak human relations, and incapacity to uphold development in the various counties as well as in the towns and counties where they operate.
