Jerusalem, Israel – Liberia President George Manneh Weah has praised the relationship between Liberia and Israel, highlighting the fact that they have a long-standing, historic fraternal relationship.
The Liberian leader expressed his joy at being in Jerusalem, the Holy Land, during a speech at the Israeli State House where he, First Lady Clar Marie Weah, and their entourage were welcomed by Israel’s President Isaac Herzog and Wife Michal. He emphasized the need to improve ties between the two nations, particularly in agriculture, with a focus on rice production. He claimed that Liberia could gain a lot from Israel in other sectors as well, such as trade, health, and education according to Executive Mansion.
Regarding international relations, President Weah restated Liberia’s support for the peace process between Palestine and Israel, stating that as the head of a nation that has recently experienced war, Liberia’s top priority on the international stage is the advancement of democracy and peace.
President Herzog welcomed President Weah to Israel and stated that his visit was a symbol of his love for the Jewish people and Israel. Since Liberia was the first African country to establish diplomatic ties with the Jewish State, he claimed that Israel takes its relations with that country extremely seriously.
“We are anxious to foster our diplomatic ties with the opening of an embassy here in Israel. With the opening of an embassy, Israel can do a lot with Liberia in many areas of cooperation such as agriculture, health, defense, and tourism.”
The Executive Mansion report that President Herzog disclosed that he would be speaking to the joint session of the US Congress and that he would be willing to raise Liberia’s case. He then volunteered to be an advocate for Liberia’s agenda internationally.
