Monrovia-The longest-reigning monarch of the United Kingdom, Queen Elizabeth II, is stated to have passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, following reports that her health had deteriorated. President George Manneh Weah has expressed regret over her loss.
Mr. Weah expresses his sincere condolences to the governments and peoples of the UK and all Commonwealth countries, whose lives have been profoundly affected by the Queen’s passing. She ruled for 70 years and commemorated her 96th birthday in April of last year.
The Queen’s passing was characterized by President Weah as a tremendous loss to the globe. He claimed that Liberia had also lost a friend who had paid a significant visit to Monrovia in 1961 to mark Liberia’s independence. A significant welcome was given to her entourage at the time, which included her late husband Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh.
Following the demise of her father King George VI, Queen Elizabeth II ascended to the throne in 1952 during a particularly difficult time in British and global history. Before her passing, she had collaborated with up to 15 prime ministers. On Tuesday she greeted in the audience Britain’s newest Prime Minister Liz Truss.
The Executive Mansion has reported that President Weah said he shares in the grief of the British people having spent some of his careers as a professional soccer player in the country. He also conveyed his condolences to the Royal family, saying that he prays they find solace in the Lord.
