The Chief Patron of Sports, President George Weah has qualified his County to the quarter-finals stage for the Basketball competition of the 2021/2022 National County Sports meet.
President Weah scored several points as Grand Kru County defeated Nimba County 30:20 points to secure 3rd straight win in group B following wins against Rivercess and Bong Counties in their previous matches.
Group B has Nimba, Rivercess, Bong, and Grand Kru Counties. Grand Kru County has qualified for every section of the competition President Weah has featured for them.
The Chief Patron of Sports is the lead player for Grand Kru in both Volleyball and Basketball components of the competition. President Weah son, Champ Weah, or George Weah Jr also featured for Grand Kru County in the football category, but they bowed to Nimba and Rivercess Counties.
Champ Weah set a record by becoming the son of a sitting president to feature in the County meet, while his Father became the first President to feature in the county meet. Grand Kru County performed very poorly in the football and kickball aspects of the competition.
The Volleyball and Basketball part of the competition is taking place at the SKD Sports complex Gymnasium in Paynesville City.
