Capitol Hill, Monrovia – President George Manneh Weah has by proclamation declared Thursday, November 2, 2023, “National Thanksgiving Day” and it is to be observed throughout the Republic as a National Holiday. The Proclamation also exhorts all religious organizations in Liberia, priests, imams, bishops, pastors, clerics, and foreign residents to congregate in their places of worship to give thanks and praises to the Almighty God so that His mercies and blessings may always be bestowed upon the country and its people.
The proclamation, according to a Foreign Ministry release, declares that the people of Liberia have always expressed gratitude and praise to the Almighty God for His loving kindness and numerous blessings bestowed upon them and their country, particularly for His unwavering protection during times of peace, natural disasters, and other occurrences throughout the years.
The Foreign Ministry statement goes on to state that the proclamation is in accordance with a National Legislature Act that was passed in 1883, designating the first Thursday of November as National Thanksgiving Day.
The Proclamation further states that it is appropriate to set aside a day for the Nation and its citizens to express gratitude and adoration to the Lord for His provision of grace, mercy, and life-saving care.
