President Weah Dedicates West Point Sports Pitch

Monrovia, Liberia – Liberia’s Chief Patron of Sports, President George Weah on Saturday, May 20, 2023, dedicated the West Point Sports pitch value three hundred ninety-nine thousand United States (399,000usd) as means of his continued refurbishment of playing pitches under his leadership.

The pitch is located in the West Point Township, which has a high population density and various towns that are controlled by the Kru speaking tribe, of whom the President is also a member.

The Liberian leader expressed his surprise at the transformation of the former sandy pitch where he once shown his footballing abilities in the beginning of his career. According to Mr. Weah, he also served as goalkeeper on many occasions at the densely populated once a sandy field.

”I am overwhelmed to see this field at this stage which I believed you will handle it with care, President Weah acknowledged.”

Giving an overview of the project, the Minister of State without Portfolio, Trokon Kpui, said the historic sporting facility has a toilet facility, dressing rooms, office space, solar lights for night games, painting and zinc replacement for houses, and drainage including the installation of Artificial Turf.

Following the dedication, there was an exhibition match between the West Point Old Timers and Weah’s Spartacus which saw the President going back to his old office as thousands of West Pointers who came out in huge number for the dedication were well entertained by his skills and five goals scored.
