Paris, France – The Liberia Institute for Statistics and Geo-Information Services (LISGIS) Acting Director General, Wilmot Smith, and the Deputy Director General for Statistics and Data Processing, Alex M. Williams, have been fired by President George Manneh Weah with immediate effect.
The Liberian Leader stated that administrative considerations led to the decision. Mr. Weah noted that all assets owned by the institution that is currently in either man’s possession must be turned over, the statement orders.
According to the Executive Mansion, Lawrence George, the LISGIS Deputy Director General for Administration, has been chosen by President Weah to fill in as Director General while Prof. Francis Wreh is on leave.
The President exhorts everyone in positions of public trust to carry out their responsibilities with sincerity and dedication.
It is reported that LISGIS has failed to live up to the institution’s standard by carrying out its duty of conducting the 2022 National Census in the country. Despite the delay in the nationwide census, executives of the institution have fed the general public with miss information that is discouraging the Liberian populace from fully participating in the census exercise.
