President George Manneh Weah of Liberia has urged Grand Bassa University graduates to strive for self-confidence. President Weah addressed the graduates during a special speech at the Grand Bassa University College’s sixth graduation on Friday. He praised the graduates for what he called “a milestone achievement” and challenged them to strive for greatness and boost their self-confidence.
He reminded the new graduates that they still had a long road ahead of them if they wanted to pursue their education. In order to overcome both predictable and unforeseen challenges, Mr. Weah advised the graduates to always maintain a positive outlook on life. According to him, there is always a way around any hurdle, he encouraged them to be devoted and resilient as well.
“Believe in yourself and don’t be carried away by what is said about you, or how others define you”.
President Weah reminded the audience of his administration’s decision to abolish tuition fees for all public institutions of higher learning, including the Grand Bassa University College, and noted that previous generations of graduates did not have the option of receiving help to pay off their graduation fees.
In order to give people who don’t have the opportunity to go to school the chance to do so and become contributing members of society, he promised that the government would continue to support the educational sector. Mr. Weah also urged the graduates to put their new knowledge into practice and to conduct themselves in ways that are suitable and reflective of their education.
Over 200 Grand Bassa University College graduates, including those with degrees in agriculture, education, nursing, business administration, and accounting, had their graduation fees covered by President Weah.
