President Weah Pardons 101 Prisoners

INCLUDING FORMER DEFENCE MINISTER, BROWNIE SAMUKAI

Monrovia, Liberia – President George Weah has granted executive pardons to a total of one hundred and one criminals who were housed in different prisons throughout the nation. The President may remit any public forfeitures and penalties, suspend any fines and sentences, grant reprieves and pardons, and restore civil rights after conviction for all public offences, except impeachment, according to Article 59 of the 1986 Liberian Constitution.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Information on Thursday, December 21, 2023, the Attorney General, Cllr. Frank Musah Dean, has been instructed by the President to guarantee that the presidential pardon is carried out without interference in accordance with legal processes.

Former National Defense Minister J. Brownie Samukai Jr., former Deputy Defense Minister for Administration Joseph P. Johnson, and former Comptroller Mr. Nyumah Dorkor are prominent figures among the 101 pardoned individuals.
