Monrovia – President George Manneh Weah, on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, received the Letter of Credence from the newly appointed United Nations Resident Coordinator to Liberia, Ambassador Christine Umutoni. During a brief ceremony at the Executive Mansion, President Weah congratulated Madam Umutoni for her preferment to head the UN Mission in Liberia. He expressed optimism that her stay here would go a long way in enhancing the longtime cooperation between Liberia and the UN.
In addition to thanking UN Secretary-General Antonio Guitaries for the outstanding job he continues to do in protecting and promoting the ideals and integrity of the global organization, the Liberian leader pondered on Liberia’s role in the United Nations’ creation some years ago. President Weah gave the incoming UN Resident Coordinator the assurance of his unwavering support for her successful performance of her tour of duty in Liberia.
According to the Executive Mansion, Ms. Umutoni responded by expressing her appreciation for the welcome she received from President Weah. Antonio Guterres’ special greetings were delivered by her. The newly appointed UN Resident Coordinator promised to keep advancing the current alliance with Liberia toward the UN’s objectives. She also praised the president for the ongoing collaboration he is creating with the UN to advance security, safety, and women’s empowerment.
The Liberian President, according to Ms. Umutoni, is an inspiration not only to the country’s youth but also to people all over the world. Ms. Umutoni, a Rwandan, takes Mr. Niels Scott’s place as the UN Resident Coordinator in Liberia, whose term has come to an end.
