China – Chinese President Xi Jinping urged China’s major provincial economies on Thursday to intensify their efforts to gain proficiency in evaluating new situations and resolving new problems. Xi, who is also the general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks during a discussion with other deputies from Jiangsu Province’s delegation at the fourth session of the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC), China’s national legislature.

He said that China will have to deal with deeper entrenched paradoxes and traverse a more complex environment in order to meet the development goals of the 15th Five-Year Plan phase (2026–2030). Xi outlined the conditions for Jiangsu, an industrial powerhouse in east China, to promote social and economic development during the following five years after hearing speeches from a number of NPC deputies.
According to Xi, the province should take the lead in creating new, high-quality productive forces since doing so is essential to promoting high-quality growth and boosting economic competitiveness. Xi called on the province to advance the integrated development of talent, education, and technology and to work toward innovation and core technology breakthroughs in important areas.
Xi called for new progress in further deepening reform and removing the institutional barriers that impede the development of new quality productive forces, saying Jiangsu should break new ground in upgrading traditional industries, supporting emerging industries, and creating forward-looking plans for future industries.
Jiangsu must continue to bolster its economic resilience and fully integrate into the unified national market while expanding its high-standard opening up and expanding its access to international markets, according to Xi, who emphasised the role that major provincial economies play in supporting national economic stability.
He said that since Chinese modernisation is the modernisation of common prosperity for all, Jiangsu must take the lead in addressing issues like improving social security and basic public services, encouraging high-quality and sufficient employment, and increasing incomes for both urban and rural residents as part of efforts to find workable solutions to achieve common prosperity for all.
“Effective Party governance offers a better guarantee for economic and social progress,” Xi said, urging serious efforts to organise and carry out the Party-wide education campaign on creating and implementing the correct understanding of what it means to perform well.
Additionally, he urged attempts to increase public trust by taking tangible steps toward complete and strict Party self-governance. Attending the occasion was Cai Qi, director of the CPC Central Committee’s General Office and a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau.
