PRESS RELEASE: Internal Affairs Minister suspend Bong County Paramount Chief

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Honorable Varney A. Sirleaf has with immediate effect suspended Mr. Eugene Paye, Paramount Chief of Panta Chiefdom, Panta District, Bong County for illegally operating a Poro Bush and the forceful adoption and initiation of a personnel of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization-FAO, name withheld.

A press release from the Ministry of Internal Affairs on November 8, 2021, said the Paramount Chief is suspended for time indefinite without pay. According to the release, the suspended Paramount chief was found liable for operating a Poro Bush in the District without the required authorization.

Meanwhile, Clan Chief Samuel Gomue has been asked to act as Paramount Chief effective immediately. The Minister has also commissioned further investigation surrounding the forceful adoption and the possible links of other local government officials.

The adopted UN personnel has been released.

At the same time, the Minister has reiterated warning against forceful initiation of others, terming it as a human right violation.
