Monrovia, Liberia – The Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Monrovia, Most Rev. Dr. Gabriel Blamo Jubwe has said that priests are not super human being, but rather born of a woman that needs care and respect. In his homily on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the priestly ordination of Rev. Father Edward S. Tiepoh and Rev. Father Omerly Y. Kollie at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Monrovia, Archbishop Jubwe said that priests are chosen from among men and that people expect them to be superhuman.
He added that priests are spiritual vessels of God’s mystery and that they are human beings called by God to share his world with the country and set apart for holy applications. He urged Catholics to pray for and support priests, emphasizing they are a direct representation of Christ on earth.
Archbishop Jubwe urged the newly ordained priests to give their life in expectation of Christ, who died for the world, and urged them to personally try to enable the world of consecration to be utilized at every mass.
“The way you will celebrate the mass and how you will reflect it in your lives, will not only convince the people, but most importantly, will make the people of God to respect your present at all time,” the archbishop explained.
The head of the Catholic Church warned the newly ordained priests that they would not taste or feel the pleasure of the priesthood if they did not join with Jesus via regular confession and time spent before the beautiful sacrament.
“Be a father to everyone, without exception, as you become priests today. Archbishop Jubwe declared, “You are to be a father whose fatherly role will make sense through selfless service.”
The Archbishop told the newly ordained priests that they are priests for life and advised them to give up earthly pursuits. The leader of the Liberian Catholic church reminded the lower-ranking priests of their responsibilities as sacrament servants, instructors, and shepherds.
Archbishop Jubwe told them that their lives must mirror Christ’s example of selfless love and sacrifice. However, he called on Catholics to pray for the increase of vocations within the Archdiocese of Monrovia; stating that the lack of priest is troubling.
The archbishop explained that it is the responsibility of Catholics to nurture the seas of vacations in families, schools and parishes.
