“Protect This Water System” Pres. Boakai Tells Gbarpolu Residences

AS HE DEDICATED NEW WATER SYSTEM IN THE COUNTY.

Monrovia, Liberia – In Gbarpolu County, President Joseph N. Boakai dedicated a US$250,000 Mini-Water Supply System, a project carried out by the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC). The Liberian leader urged the county’s residents to take good care, safeguard, and use the project responsibly.

During the delegation ceremony on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, President Boakai stated that the general public believes Liberians are really bad at maintenance. He believes that the county’s residents should work to dispel this negative image and contribute to its durability by diligently adhering to its maintenance schedule.

“I have faith that you will, and you will reap the greatest rewards. We will continue to work together to create a Liberia that is healthier, stronger, and more successful. As we dedicate this water supply system today, I assure you that this is just the beginning. We will continue to work toward expanding access to clean water, not just in Bopolu but in every county across Liberia. As a matter of fact, we have a lot in our plan to improve infrastructure and health of the Bopolu and Gbarpolu citizens,” he said.

Although it may not yet cover the entire city, the system is the first of its sort in Bopolu, according to the Liberian leader, and it is a significant step in that direction. He claims that the fact that the Liberian government is providing all of the funding for the water system’s installation makes it even more satisfying to him.

President Boakai explained that in order to connect to clean and safe drinking water, residences and businesses that are within the pipe network’s service area need to register with the LWSC.

The President clarified that the project’s advantages go beyond simple convenience, saying that it also helps drastically cut down on the time and physical strain required to get water, freeing up women and children to engage in more fruitful pursuits.

Most significantly, he stated, the water installation would contribute to the prevention of the spread of fatal waterborne illnesses, guaranteeing a healthier community and lowering family medical costs.

However, President Boakai expressed his sincere gratitude to the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation’s management and employees for their leadership in bringing the project to fruition.

“I would like to thank the Gbarpolu County Legislative Caucus and the County Administration for their dedication to bettering the lives of our citizens. Working together to provide our communities with practical answers is what leadership is all about,” he said.

According to the president, his administration is still dedicated to making sure that everyone in Liberia, regardless of where they reside, has access to clean drinking water and better sanitation.

“With the devolution of powers and services to all segments of our society, the water project is a testament to the longstanding commitment to decentralization,” Boakai continued.
