Sports Commission on Broad Street in Monrovia was a scene of attraction on Sunday evening as phase two of the 2022 National Basketball league got underway.
In the day’s early kick-off in the 2nd division, G. Highlanders proved supremacy over Kardinals as they won by 71-53 points, 19 points margin to kick start phase two on a spectacular note.
T.S. Warrior also beat Bushord Ballers by 67-52 points in another 2nd division battle on Sunday evening, but the biggest encounter of the night was between NPA Pythons and LPRC Oilers in the first division.
The Port boys following several promising displayed in the 3rd and 4th quarters were looked set to get a win but fell prey to the Oil boys by 72-69 points, three points margin.
The match which needed overtime to produce a winner brought serious exchanges between match officials and the supporters of NPA Pythons after the climax of the official time.
Python’s supporters alleged that one of the three-match officials who officiated the match is in the employ of LPRC; something according to them played a pivotal role in their defeat to the Oilers.
According to them, the particular referee officiated the match in favor of the Oilers, and as such, the Liberia Basketball Referees Association should have known better in their selection of match officials.
The match officials in their angry mood said they are highly Professional to have been rated negatively by supporters of NPA Pythons.
According to them, spectators always get disenchanted whenever their teams lost, adding that, the disenchantment of Pythons supporters is not anything new in Liberian basketball.
Meanwhile, phase two of the competition kicked off on Saturday, April 30, 2022, between Barnesville Dragons and T. S Gray. T.S Gray won Barnesville Dragons by 76-69 points.
