Greenville, Sinoe County – The Managing Director of the National Port Authority (NPA) Sekou A. Dukuly has informed a delegation of the European Union (EU) of plan to begin the renovation of damaged infrastructures of various ports around the country, emphasizing the renovation process.
Speaking Thursday, March 27, 2025 went he led a delegation of European Union (EU) representatives to the Samuel Alfred Ross Port of Greenville-Sinoe County, Director Dukuly disclosed that skilled technicians and materials are already on the grounds of the Samuel Alfred Ross Port in Greenville, with an official progress assessment set for two months.
At the same time, the managing director of the NPA thanked the EU for incorporating port electrification within the US$44 million rural electrification project, which aims to improve services, lower prices, and draw in investment. The visit represents a major milestone in Liberia’s port infrastructure development after the nation was chosen for the EU-funded SCOPE Africa Program.
H.E. Nona Deprez, the EU ambassador to Liberia, emphasized the project’s significance in bringing both solar and hydroelectric electricity to the cities of Greenville and Buchanan by December 2025. The NPA leadership team was then praised by EU Ambassador H.E. Deprez for maintaining the Port of Greenville’s operations despite the challenging circumstances.
The EU’s dedication to the initiative and its potential for transforming the region was reaffirmed by Ambassador Nona Deprez. “A collaborative approach is crucial to avoiding delays and meeting the completion deadline, as a total of €42 million has been allocated for electricity distribution.”
Hon. Peter W. Nyensuah, the superintendent of Sinoe County, Cllr. Sylvia A. Tarley, the director of the Port of Greenville, and other Greenville stakeholders were all present during the visit.
