Monrovia, Liberia – Rick W. Barsi-Giah, a distinguished Energy Economics graduate of Rice University, has endorsed Mustapha I. Raji’s bid for a third term as president of the Liberia Football Association (LFA).
Formerly the Deputy Minister for Technical Services at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT), Barsi-Giah, now Vice President for Technical Services at the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL), expressed his support for Mr. Raji on his official Facebook page.
“I will support Mustapha Raji in his third-term bid. He is honestly ending his tenure as provided by the LFA Statutes. The victory is ours.”
He joins Stephen Johnson, the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority’s Deputy Managing Director for Administration, who said, “We must preserve the sacredness of football in Liberia. Raji is clear about his goals for the LFA. We must all work together to support him and ensure his success.”
“Leaders are people with integrity and moral values, not crooks and common thieves,” Johnson said. He added that football governance must remain transparent, accountable, and people-centered.
Football community stakeholders are analyzing the progress made under Raji’s leadership and debating the future direction of the game in the country. Many supporters attribute the LFA’s recent seeming success in infrastructure development, youth competitions, and grassroots growth to the current management.
As delegates get ready to choose who would lead the organization through its next stage of growth, the April elections are anticipated to have a significant impact on Liberian football’s future.
Raji, who is now the President of the LFA, is running for reelection with a platform that builds on the progress he has made in institutional strengthening, technical development, and infrastructural expansion. Endorsements like Johnson and Barsi-Giah are expected to have an impact on discussions in football circles around the country as the election draws near.
