AS SURVIVORS STRUGGLES TO CARE FOR THEMSELVES WITHOUT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Rivercess County, Liberia – According to reports, authorities on Sunday morning formally declared Aaron Harris deceased. Harris was an injured party from the Chio Town mudslide who was receiving treatment at the John F. Kennedy Hospital in Monrovia.

This increases the total number of victims to 11. After Monday night’s mudslide at an abandoned mine in Chio Town, authorities found and declared ten people dead. Of the others, about seven people, including Harris, were gravely injured and were transferred to various hospitals and herbalists.

Some of the people who were there at the site reportedly raced to save friends or family members minutes after the catastrophe. Seven people were pulled alive but seriously injured from beneath the rubble, and roughly five other people only had minor wounds. That evening, the wounded were quickly removed from the scene. After being admitted to Gbediah Hospital, a few were subsequently forwarded to the John F. Kennedy Hospital located in Monrovia.

And there were those who were outside the pit and were struck by loose soil. Three people were brought to conventional bone specialists. A large number of people who either had minor injuries or none at all fled into hiding that evening out of fear of being detained and interrogated by police.

According to a FrontPage Africa report, 14-year-old Cyrus Morris, a farmer’s son, was saved by his mother, Patience Morris. The child claimed that the week before the incident, he was expelled from school for unpaid tuition.

Patience Morris, the mother of Cyrus, went to the mine after learning that her son was there and went looking for him. The mudslide happened right after they arrived. Although Cyrus’s entire body was covered in dirt, she claimed to be able to identify her son by his shirt.

According to reports, the non-discovery rescue search began one day before the River Cess Legislative Caucus left the area. There was also the departure of the National Disaster Management Agency. For now, the only team on the ground is the Armed Forces of Liberia patrol team. The families of the victims and their survivors reported that neither the local nor the federal governments had provided them with any kind of support, financial or otherwise.
