Monrovia, Liberia – Save the Children International (SCI) Liberia Office has embarked on child rights and gender equity training in Gbarnga, Bong County, central Liberia. The training brings together partners and legislators from the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Ministry of Education, Foundation for International Dignity (FIND), Civil Society Council, Liberia National Police (LNP) Women and Children Protection Unit and Parent Teachers Associations (PTAs) based in Gbarnga as well staff of Save the Children Liberia according to Save the Children release dated September 24, 2024.

The program aims to equip participants with knowledge on the United Nations Convention on the rights of the child and grasp of rights-based approaches across institutions. It is also meant to connect rights-based practice to legislative and policy setting. Participants in the one-day seminar discussed how children may be safeguarded from danger and abuse as well as strategies for shielding them from damaging discipline and discrimination.

The refresher training covers issues including Understanding Child Maltreatment, Child Neglect, Principles in Working with Children and Adolescents Exposed to Maltreatment. Other highlights under Gender Equity include the process of treating all people including men, women, boys, and girls fairly.

Another topic under discussion was gender disparity. Leading independent child rights group Save the Children seeks to realize breakthroughs and guarantee that every kid survives, learns, and is safeguarded worldwide. Projects run by SCI Liberia are in nine of Liberia’s fifteen counties: Montserrado, Bong, Margibi, Grand Bassa, River Cess, Rivergee, Grand Gedeh, Nimba and Lofa.
