Monrovia, Liberia – Thomas Yaya Nimely, a senator of Grand Gedeh County has cautioned the Unity Party leadership against establishing the War and Economic Crimes Court and to instead concentrate on saving the populace. Senator Nimely emphasized during a press conference on Capitol Hill on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, that President Joseph Boakai had pledged to the Liberian people that the Rescue Mission would bring about change.
He stressed that if the government creates the WECC in the first two to three months of the administration in order to target specific people, then all of the President’s agenda plans will be totally undercut. This statement from the legislator was made two days after more than forty members of the House of Representatives approved a resolution calling for the creation of the court and it was forwarded to the Senate of Liberia for approval.
Meanwhile, President Joseph Boakai has been urged by Senator Thomas Yaya Nimely to recall Alex Chester Grant, the Grand Gedeh County superintendent-designate.
He claimed that the residents have accused Mr. Grant of abducting their son, whose body has not yet been discovered in the county, and he emphasizes that the nominee has since been barred from approaching specific areas of the region by the locals.
Senator Thomas Yaya Nimely continue that the people’s will is his will and revealed that the Committee on Internal Affairs had received a request to postpone Mr. Grant’s hearing until after the public has been consulted.
