“Settle Your Real Property Tax Obligations” Boakai mandates GoL officials

Capitol Hill, Monrovia – In accordance with the Liberia Revenue Code and the National Code of Conduct, all newly appointed public officials, directors, and mid-level managers are required under a Presidential Directive issued by President Joseph N. Boakai to promptly pay their outstanding real property tax debts.

The directive from the President highlights that all officials must pay all unpaid property taxes for privately owned properties, settle tax debts for Fiscal Year 2025, settle past-due arrears or sign legally binding payment agreements with the LRA, and get and submit a valid Tax Clearance Certificate within 60 days.

The end of the month (October 31, 2025) is the deadline for complete compliance, he said.

According to the Liberian leader, verification and enforcement will be managed by the LRA in coordination with the Bureau of State Enterprises (BSE), the Civil Service Agency (CSA), and the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP).

He asserted that noncompliance would be a breach of the Revenue Code and the National Code of Conduct, resulting in fines, salary deductions, interest charges, benefit withholding, and other legal consequences.

President Boakai also urged members of the Judiciary and Legislature to show equal accountability by filing their Tax Clearance Certificates through their separate secretariats and making sure their assets are free of obstacles like unpaid taxes.

According to him, this action is required to promote revenue integrity, transparency, and fiscal accountability throughout the government.
