Speaker Chambers Attacks CDC for Neglecting him

TO THE HANDS OF NEC

Monrovia, Liberia – Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Liberia, Bhofal Chambers, voiced his displeasure with his party, the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), for allegedly opting to remain silent regarding the ongoing legal battle resulting from the October 10, 2023 elections.

Speaker Chambers has disapproved the results of the October 10, 2023, elections, which indicated that Anthony Williams, his main opponent, had won the popular vote.

Speaking to a large group of legislative media on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, the departing speaker said he felt deceived by the departing ruling establishment, which chose to promote Deputy Speaker Fonati Kofa as the party’s nominee for speaker instead of supporting him in his legal endeavours.

Since the election results were announced, Speaker Chambers has opposed the National Election Commission’s decision in support of Anthony Williams, the winner who had consistently challenged him during the electoral process.

Deputy Speaker Fonati Koffa has been declared incompetent by Speaker Chambers to serve as the head of the 55th legislature as Speaker of the House of Representatives.
