Speaker Koon Promises Assistance in Rebuilding LICPA Headquarters

Monrovia, Liberia – House Speaker Richard N. koon has promise to push for funding to rebuild Liberian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (LICPA) Congo Town offices.  Speaker Koon made the commitment on Monday, August 17, in response to an invitation from LICPA officials to visit the organization and evaluate its requirements, difficulties, and working circumstances.

The visit provided the Speaker, who is himself a professional accountant, an opportunity to observe firsthand the condition of the institution’s headquarters and hear directly from its leadership about the difficulties affecting its operations. Speaker Koon was informed by LICPA President Papin Daniels that although though the building belongs to the organization, its current state has raised serious concerns.

Daniels claims that there are noticeable fissures in a number of the building’s parts, which raises questions about the security of both staff and other facility users. According to him, there is an urgent need for a safer, more appropriate, and contemporary building that can handle LICPA’s expanding duties and activities due to the headquarters’ declining state.

The institution’s capacity to successfully fulfill its purpose of bolstering Liberia’s accounting profession may also be impacted, according to officials. LICPA President Papin Daniels told Speaker Koon that while the building is owned by the organization, there are major worries about its current condition.

According to Daniels, there are obvious cracks in several areas of the building, which raises concerns about the safety of employees and other facility patrons. He claims that because of the deteriorating condition of the headquarters, there is an immediate need for a safer, more suitable, and modern structure that can accommodate LICPA’s growing responsibilities and activities.

According to officials, the institution’s ability to effectively accomplish its goal of supporting Liberia’s accounting profession may also be impacted. In response to the worries, Speaker Koon promised to use his position in the Legislature to promote support for LICPA, including attempts to obtain funding for the organization’s headquarters reconstruction. For them to take proper action, he recommended the institution’s leadership formally describe its requirements and concerns.

“We can resolve the problem here since you got me now as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and this is my profession. It’s better you take advantage of me. You don’t know what will come tomorrow, so let me do the best I can do so that we can put LICPA back on the right trajectory,” Speaker Koon said.

The speaker stated that rather than depending just on reports, he decided to visit the organization in order to have a firsthand understanding of the difficulties LICPA faces. He stated, “I need a formal proposal from the LICPA to tell me some of the challenges and what we need to do. For this reason, I visited to gather firsthand information, and after my visit, I realized that this location still requires improvement.”

Speaker Koon stated that strengthening Liberia’s ability to develop and qualify more professional accountants is more important than just rebuilding the headquarters. He underlined the significance of producing Liberian professionals capable of meeting the needs of the nation’s public and commercial sectors and helping to enhance financial management.

In the next three to six years, we must begin qualifying Liberians, thus we must work hard, according to Koon. His comments put the state of LICPA’s headquarters in the context of a larger discussion about institutional capacity, professional development, and the necessity of bolstering Liberia’s financial accountability frameworks.
