While others call it the biggest unifier, a vital instrument for marketing products and services, prominent Montserrado County District #9 resident, Fofee Kamara, has echoed that sports go beyond entertainment and teams competing for supremacy.
Speaking exclusively to Journalists, Mr. Kamara, a corporate finance professional averred that given the huge corporate capacity of sports, mainly soccer, it is a very essential component of national development he wants every well-meaning Liberian to embrace it.
According to Mr. Kamara, there is a need for communities to mobilize support and encourage their leaders to invest in sporting ventures. He named corporate support to teams, administrative and operational structure, motivating the youth to choose a sporting career, and recommend to the national government, the involvement of big businesses in supporting sports clubs, among others.
Putting words to action, Mr. Kamara revealed that he has plans to use sports to unite communities and a driving force for socio-economic development, for which he has organized a district football tournament currently ongoing with the intent to promote peace and unity amongst residents.
The tournament is under the individual sponsorship of the Businessman and is taking place on weekends at the 12th Street sports pitch, Duduville field, and Gbangay Town as well.
According to Fofee Kamara, the games are being mixed with psychosocial counseling to give the youth a positive mindset and a warm spirit of patriotism.
He neither confirmed nor deny whether or not, his initiatives have political intentions but was quick to point out that as a Liberian with constitutional rights, the future always has endless possibilities he could make the determination at the appropriate time.
More than 20 communities are participating in the tournament, competing for an attractive cash prize. The games are being played on a knock-out basis.
