Liberia’s Chief Patron of Sports, President George Weah has termed his participation in this year’s county sports meet as historic. Mr. Weah lead his Native county Grand Kru to both the Volleyball and Basketball titles in the just ended 2021/ 2022 National County Sports Meet.
President Weah’s Grand Kru County defeated Margibi 3-0 to seal the Volleyball aspect of the competition and, walked on Lofa County by 82:57 points to win the Basketball final.
The former World Best indicated that sports are not only for young people, and as such, he was proud to have been represented in the competition. The Chief Patron of Sports who was named the Overall Most Valuable Player for both volleyball and basketball categories by the organizers said his county meet records are now on the book.
President Weah made the disclosure on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at the climax of the volleyball and basketball components of the competition held at the SKD Sports Complex Gymnasium in Paynesville.
“You see me, I am 55 years old walking with two trophies in basketball and volleyball, this is a great result and pride for me. I am not too sure of playing in the next Tournament, but my county meet records are on the books now”, Mr. Weah noted.
Meanwhile, Sinoe County defeated Rivergee County by 73-56 points to clinch the basketball third place while Montserrado County came from two sets down to beat Lofa County 3:2 in the Volleyball 3rd place final.
