Monrovia, Liberia – Liberia two representatives in the CAF Competitions commenced their campaigns over the weekend against their respective opponents.
Double champions, Liscr FC settled to a one all draw away to Bo Rangers in Sierra Leone in the CAF Champions League while Watanga FC was beaten 3-1 at home to Stade Malien in the Confederation Cup.
The Malian make use of goalkeeping errors from Watanga FC shoot stopper, Derrick Julu as Lassine Kouma put the visitors ahead in the opening 15 minutes before Watanga FC skipper, Farsedu Logan level from the penalty spot at the stroke of half time.
However, the visitors restored their lead in the 68th and 90th minutes from additional costly errors which Adoul Salam Dembele tapped in followed by Malick Dijgbouba finished on the touchline when the ball slide from the goalkeeper hands as Stade Malien completed a 3-1 win going in to the second leg with huge advantage.
The Liberian side will have to win 3-0 in the return fixture in Mali to have any chance of qualifying to the next stage of the competition.
For their part, LISCR only need a zero all draw in the returns fixture at the SKD in Paynesville or a compulsory win to move to another stage of qualifiers.
Both Liscr and Watanga will be playing this weekend.
