Paynesville, Liberia – The Liberia Football Association (LFA) conducted an Extraordinary Congress on Sunday, February 22, 2026, where 40 stakeholders unanimously voted to confirm members of the Association’s crucial judicial and oversight bodies, marking a substantial consolidation of power ahead of the 2026 elections.
The 40 members in attendance have a 100% approval rate, which successfully quells weeks of internal dissension and lays a solid basis for the impending leadership change. The Judicial, Audit and Compliance, Club Licensing, and Elections committees are among the confirmed bodies.
The confirmed committees will be essential to upholding the sport’s integrity. 34 out of 49 voting members responded to the first roll call, exceeding the necessary quorum for the Congress, which was held in Monrovia. Among the high-profile attendees were government representatives, sports executives, members of the media, and onlookers.
Seven recently promoted clubs were formally accepted into the LFA and swore in as full members during the session. These include promoted Second Division clubs Gedeh FC, Wein Town FC, SUSA FC, and Golden Dream, as well as Third Division teams Tap Tap FC, Small Town FC, and Liberian Falconet.
The Extraordinary Congress is the last significant obstacle before the Elective Congress, which is formally set for Harper City on April 18, 2026. LFA President Mustapha I. Raji urges delegates to remain focused and make choices that would affect the Liberian Football Association during his speech during the Congress.
“Don’t be misled,” President Mustapha Raji cautioned the delegates that there will be some people among “us who do not want the LFA to prosper.” He urged participants to keep their attention on the game’s growth rather than their own personal goals.
It is anticipated that the elections in April will be the most competitive in recent memory. Current President Mustapha Raji is seeking a third term, emphasizing a platform of continuity and infrastructure development. The president of FC Fassell, Cassell Kuoh, is expected to oppose him. Kuoh has advocated for reform and transparency during his campaign and has called for an end to “white ballot” (uncontested) elections.
The future of Liberian football will be decided at a crucial juncture, now that the electoral and judicial systems are firmly established. Notable leadership appointments include:
