Buchanan, Grand Bassa – An alarming event took place in Grand Bassa on the evening of March 19, 2025, when a man posing as a former U.S. Marine allegedly threatened to shoot a group of Chinese miners for unknown reasons. Eyewitnesses reported that the man reached the mine site in an American car. Then he threatened the miners by tying them up with ropes and pointing a gun at them. Around seven o’clock in the evening, the frightening occurrence occurred in Grand Bassa District #1’s Mat House Community.
Grand Bassa Superintendent Karyou Johnson took immediate action after hearing of the issue and sent a squad from the Grand Bassa Police Detachment to the area. The suspect had already left by the time they got there.
Following the event, Sup. Johnson directed the Liberia National Police (LNP) to launch an immediate investigation and track down and apprehend the person reportedly posing as a former Marine. Although the suspect’s motivation is yet unknown, the county officials have pledge committed to finding the truth and shaming the person responsible.
Concerns about the safety of foreign workers in the area have been voiced by locals, and this disturbing episode has prompted inquiries about security procedures at mining operations. The Chinese miners have so far been confirmed to be uninjured, and the authorities are still looking into the matter.
Anyone who knows something should come forward and help with the inquiry, Superintendent Johnson has asked. The authorities in Grand Bassa are dedicated to upholding safety and making sure that justice is done.
