Supreme Court Justice in Chamber Jamesetta Woloklie has ordered the leadership of the House of Representatives to pay District #10 lawmakers Yekeh Kolubah all his salary and benefits him for the month of June 2021.
It can be recalled on May 18, 2021, the Plenary of the House of Representatives took a unanimous decision to suspend Representative Kolubah for a period of sixteen meeting days and denied all salaries and benefits for the said period.
Representative Kolubah through his legal counsel, Jimmy Bombo took the matter to the Supreme Court, stressing that the decision by the House to suspend his cline was unfair and illegal as he was not afforded due process before his suspension.
But the respondent (House of Repetitive) through its legal counsel Albert Simms denied the assertion made by defense counsel that the lawmaker was given due process before he was suspended.
Counselor Simms added that there were attached documents such as letters that were written to Rep. Kolubah by its Rules, Order, and Administration informing Rep. Kolubah of a complaint that had been filed against him by his colleague, Rep. Thomas Fallah, for his alleged constant, direct and egregious behavior exhibited against the Liberian President.
He noted that there were several attempts to the informants (Hon. Kolubah) for a hearing failed as the lawmaker refused to receive the letters that were written to him, let alone show up for the hearings, sending last-minute excuses on the days set for the hearing.
Cllr. Simms furthered that Rep. Kolubah allegedly ordered his office staff not to take any communication from the Houses’ committee on Rules, Order, and Administration, something which prompted the committee to take the said decision.
Additionally, the committee then concluded that Rep. Kolubah’s action was deliberate and intended to avoid the committee’s hearings. The committee then recommended the suspension of Rep. Yekeh Kolubah from all legislative functions for a period of thirty (30) meeting days and that his benefits, including salary, gasoline, etc. be withheld and not paid for the period of the suspension.
Meanwhile, Representative Kolubah expressed joy in the Supreme Court ruling that is in his favor and praised the justice system.
