Monrovia, Liberia – Survivors of the historic Lutheran Church Massacre has called on the Boakai government to take full responsibility to provide benefits for reparations and erecting appropriate memorials for the victims.
The call was made 34 years after nearly 600 internally displaced residents were killed in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Sinkor, Monrovia, by soldiers of the Armed Forces of Liberia.
Several of the survivors who gave testimony during a memorial service held in the victims’ honor claimed they are still dealing with the trauma, wounds, and scars from the horrific event.
They called on the Liberian government to put in proper measures and not just paper work for the establishment of the war and economic crimes court in Liberia. The group at the same time called on President Boakai to work with people of integrity and respect for the rule of law to ensure proper accountability as it relates to the establishment of the war and economic crimes court in Liberia.
They said, there are many Liberians who are still suffering from trauma and if care and proper selection of those to lead the court have tinted characters will spark out chaos.
