A Local organization under the banner “Girl education for Liberia” has joined other girls and women across the world over the weekend to celebrate the world menstrual health hygiene day.
World Menstrual Health Hygiene Day is celebrated on May 28 over the world every year to create awareness about menstruation, and provide safe and hygienic practices to girls. According to UNFPA, May 28 signifies the menstrual cycle of females.
Remarking on the program held in Paynesville, Deputy Director for Girl Education Liberia Luah Bondo encouraged Liberian Women to see menstruation as a normal cycle and not a stigma.
She at the same time inspired women to teach girls, and talk about menstruation in various homes and schools. Mad. Bondo noted that menstruation should not be something like a crime as many see it, but a nature that a woman goes through as a normal human.
She called on other local and international organizations including partners to join the fight against stigmatization at schools, workplaces, and in the public.
