The Rollers of Basketball have won the Liberia Basketball Association (LBA) first-division championship for the second time in a row. Bushrod Bulls was defeated by seasoned Mighty Barrolle by 46-38 points in the decisive game of the best-of-five series to claim the 2022 National Basketball First Division title, which was played under the direction of Julius Kpakolo, Richard Dorley, and Brian Nyangbe.
Both sides entered the game with two victories each from the series’ opening four games, but it was the more seasoned Rollers that defeated their younger counterparts.
The game took place on October 2, 2022, at the Paynesville SKD Basketball GYM. According to statistics, this game drew the largest crowd ever for a basketball game in Liberia.
Our reporter claims that the game was stopped for more than 20 minutes in the final 56 seconds of the fourth quarter because of violent behavior by fans who were allegedly Bushord Bulls supporters. When Bushrod Bulls were trailing Mighty Barrolle 41-36, according to our reporter, the fans invalidated the playing field, claiming that Mighty Barrolle was receiving technological help.
However, after the game’s conclusion, Bushrod Bulls head coach Erik Cooper told Reports231 in an interview that his players’ disobedience to orders was the main reason for their excruciating loss to Barrolle.
Meanwhile, Julius Kpakolo retained the Most Valuable Player award following the footstep of his club Mighty Barrolle.
The Liberia Basketball Association at the same time presented trophies to female division champions, Commissioners, male 2nd and 3rd division winners, Barnesville Dragons, and Spartacus.
Commissioners defeated the Invincible Eleven female squad in the first three matches of the best-of-five series.
Same as Barnesville Dragons will meet Visioneers in the 2nd division and Spartacus versus Vision Shooters will meet in the 3rd division.
