Monrovia, Liberia – Thomas Kojo, a former player, has been appointed head coach of Lone Star by the Liberian government’s  through Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Ahead of the next World Cup qualifiers in March, the public was worried about who would be the head coach of the national squad.

The query was delivered via cellphone to Cllr. Cole Bangalu, the Youth and Sports Minister, on Saturday, February 15, 2025, on the OK Sports Desk weekend edition.

Since former coach Mario Marinica left, Thomas Kojo has been the Lone Star’s stand-in coach, according to confirmation from the MYS Minister.

“I am aware that Thomas Kojo has been the stand-in coach since Mario Marinica left.”

In response to the LFA Media Officer Anthony Kokoi’s announcement on local radio that Thomas Kojo’s tenure as stand-in coach had ended, the MYS Minister questioned whether the people would believe a minister or a media officer.

“It is up to you to decide who to believe, but I am saying that, in my position, Thomas Kojo is still leading the national team,” he explained.

But with seven points from four games, Liberia sits third place in the group, one point behind Namibia in second place, and three points behind leaders Tunisia, who have ten points.

The United States, Canada, and Mexico are set to host the expanded 48-nation tournament.

Africa gets nine spots out of 48 countries, whereas North America has six, Europe has sixteen, South America has six, Oceania has one, and two more teams will be chosen via intercontinental playoffs.

Before facing Sao Tome and Principe on March 24, the pride and joy of Liberia will play Group C favorites Tunisia on March 17, 2025.
