Tim Weah’s goal against Wales in the 36th minute, according to the former assistant sports minister, made him think of his father’s ( George Weah) active playing career. Although America chose to draw the match, he said, watching two players from the squad with Liberian ties play in a World Cup game meant a lot to him and many other Liberians, which is what inspired him.

Timothy Tarpeh Weah, an American professional soccer player who plays as a winger for Ligue 1 club Lille, was born on February 22, 2000, in Brooklyn. Haji Amir Wright, an American professional soccer player who plays for Süper Lig club Antalyaspor in Turkey, was born on March 27, 1998, in Los Angeles, California.

The sports icon and educator also praised Alphonso Davies of the men’s national team of Canada, who also has ties to Liberia. Born on November 2, 2000, in Buduburam Camp, Ghana, Alphonso Boyle Davies later immigrated to Canada as a refugee. He is a professional soccer player for the Canadian national team and Bundesliga club Bayern Munich, where he plays as a left defender or winger. Due to his speed, dribbling, and creativity, he is considered one of the best full-backs in the world.
