Day after President George Weah delivered his final state of the nation address, three top opposition parties sharply responded to President Weah’s annual message; the Unity Party, Liberty Party, and Alternative National Congress lash the CDC-Led government for failed promises and bad governance. Presidential Aspirant Alexander Cummings has accused the CDC-led government of doing nothing to improve the living standards of the Liberian people.
The ANC Standard Bearer claims that the George Weah government engages in widespread corruption and therefore can not be trusted with state power. He noted that since president Weah has no idea what he is doing, the country has been running itself for the past six years. He added that when a country runs itself, nothing gets done and everyone is free to do what they want, even if it is against the law.
“Everything breaks down, leaving dirt on the streets that put people’s health in danger. Prices in the country are rising as things get harder and harder, and businesses are being forced to close as a result of all the difficulties.”
The CPP political Leader maintained that after years of president Weah’s stewardship, the stake of the Republic is weak without Jobs for citizens, No hope, No change, and No security, citizens are living in poverty without opportunity; while officials of government continue to enrich themselves.
Mr. Cummings said in the period of five years, president George Weah has succeeded in dumping the state into a deep hole and he does not have any means of revamping the State. He claimed that the CDC government has borrowed over two billion dollars from the International Community and they do not have tangible reports or justifiable reasons for the expenditure. The CPP political Leader promised to deliver every Liberian from abject poverty under his Leadership as president of the Republic of Liberia, he at the same time promised to prosecute corrupt government officials.
Meanwhile, the opposition Liberty Party described president Weah speech as unrealistic. President Weah statement of six million to increase salary of some fifteen thousand civil servants in the country. Speaking at a news conference Tuesday, January 31,2023, at her Capitol Hill office in Monrovia, the party’s Political Leader, Senator Nyonblee Karngar-Lawrence said the pronouncement is an attempt to put the people against the legislature, as six million is insignificant to increase the salary of 15,000 civil servants. She cautioned the Liberian Chief Executive to use another strategy in asking for the Liberian people vote.
For her part, Unity Party Vice Chairperson Mrs. Dabah M. Varpilah said the CDC government must own up to the massive failure and inequity in the government’s payroll harmonization scheme which the UP said has turned the opposite.
According to her, public schools across the country are filled with incompetent and unqualified teachers most of whom are volunteer and are yet to receive compensation from the government of Liberia through the Ministry of education. The output of secondary School students remain terrible; president Weah free education policy has over burden the system to the extend that the quality of students outweigh the capability it was meant to provide she added.
Haven’t failed the people of Liberia in providing the needed education, the sector plan will require the government to commit more than five hundred million United States Dollars over the next five years Mrs. Dabah M. Varpilah concluded.
