Monrovia, Liberia – The government characterizes the arrival of the first shipment of 137 heavy-duty earthmoving machines, commonly referred to as “yellow machines,” at the Freeport of Monrovia aboard the ship HJ SINGAPORE as a significant step in addressing Liberia’s ongoing road infrastructure issue.
In order to speed up road construction and rehabilitation across the country, especially in rural counties where poor road conditions have long hampered access to healthcare, economic growth, and agricultural productivity, the shipment includes graders, bulldozers, loaders, compactors, and other support equipment.
In response to the arrival, there has been a great deal of public outcry. Many Liberians have praised President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung, and the current administration for what they say were better financial terms than those of previous agreements.
According to official records, the equipment will be spread throughout counties to help public works teams and local authorities repair feeder roads, create farm-to-market routes, and improve communication between rural and urban areas. The arrival of the latest shipment coincides with months of political debate around the purchase of heavy machinery.
