AHEAD OF 2023 ELECTONS
Monrovia, Liberia – Michael McCarthy, the United States ambassador accredited to Liberia, has severely cautioned Liberian politicians to stay away from repeating the “nonsense” that took place in Senator Prince Johnson’s church.
As may be remembered, some young militants who were allegedly affiliated with Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor’s National Patriotic Party disrupted regular church services at Senator Johnson’s Christ Chapel of Faith Ministry in Paynesville, Montserrado County.
Amb. McCarthy emphasized during a news conference on Wednesday, May 31,2023, that the violent crime committed at the church of the Nimba County Senator is wholly reprehensible.
All political parties in Liberia recently pledged to hold a free, fair, and peaceful election in October 2023 by signing the Farmington River Declaration in Margibi County, according to Ambassador McCarthy.
He noted that as a result, upholding the Farmington River Declaration is entirely the duty of all politicians, the ambassador urged the Liberian media and institutions to make sure that politicians follow the declaration.
