AHEAD OF 2023 PRESIDENTIAL AND LEGISLATIVE ELECTIONS

Monrovia, Liberia – In order to ensure that the 2023 election is devoid of bloodshed, Muslim leaders are being urged to take all necessary precautions by the American ambassador Michael McCarthy. The Muslim leaders, according to Ambassador Michael McCarthy, should exert their sway to prevent the democratic progress Liberia has accomplished over the years from being undone by the presidential and legislative elections in 2023.

Ambassador McCarthy spoke at the program marking the induction of the newly elected corps of officers of the National Muslim Council of Liberia for a four-year term in Monrovia. He claims that the Muslim minority in Liberia has an advantage because of their strength in a number of industries, including transportation, law, petroleum products, and full retail.

Sheik Abraham Sheriff, the newly elected Chairman of the National Muslim Council of Liberia, warned Muslims to participate more actively in the group’s activities in his induction speech. He contends that the National Muslim Council of Liberia can only advance if local Muslims back its initiatives. Sheik Sheriff pledged to build on the accomplishments of his predecessors throughout his time as the council’s leader. He expressed gratitude to Saudi Arabia, the United States, and the former and current Liberian government officials who attended the event.

Speaking on behalf of President George Weah, Internal Affairs Minister, who is also a Muslim, thanked the peaceful conduct of their transfer of power of leadership. He re-affirmed President Weah’s commitment in respecting the freedom of religion and assured them of government sincerity in holding a peaceful and transparent elections.

Including the decentralization of the council, the passage of a new constitution, and the future vision, Minister Sirleaf praised the departing leadership for a job well done.

Dr. Brahima Kaba, Liberia ambassador to Saudi Arabia, gave the keynote address and praised the National Muslim Council of Liberia’s leadership for continuing the aspirations of the group’s founders. He warned them that in order to progress the growth of Islam in Liberia, they must build on the accomplishments of their forebears.

Vice Chairman for Administration Mohamed Konneh, Vice Chairman for Operations Abduraman Sow, Secretary General Kuku Reeves, and Vice Chairperson for Women Affairs Anna Sheriff were all inducted.
The event was graced by previous and current government leaders, a delegation from Saudi Arabia, members of the diplomatic corps, and many others.
