Monrovia, Liberia – Political party leaders in Liberia have been cautioned by the US Embassy in Monrovia to hold off on declaring victory until after the National Election Commission has released its final findings.
A statement from the United States on Thursday, October 12, 2023, stated that several political parties have declared victories before the NEC’s official publication of the results of the elections in each of the 15 counties.
The Embassy committed to waiting for the National Election Commission authorities to reveal the results in an official statement that was made public on Thursday, October 12, 2023. Along with other international partners, the Embassy is advising all Liberians to be patient during this critical stage of their democratic process and refuse to assess the results of the election based on the accusations made by any party or candidate.
The US Embassy expressed its appreciation to the Liberian people for their enthusiastic involvement in the elections and their dedication to exercising their constitutional right to vote and participating in the political process. It emphasised that this civic engagement was seen as a testament to the country’s commitment to democracy.
The Embassy also urged all voters, political parties, and political contenders to maintain composure and peace as they awaited the official announcement of the NEC’s results. According to the Embassy, preserving calm and stability during this time is essential to preserving the integrity of the nation’s democratic process.
