The first Charles Beenhauer soccer tournament, put on by the National Safety Partnership of Liberia, was won by United Brothers Association (NASAPAL). Six communities, as well as motorcyclists, tricycle operators, and drivers from several districts, gathered for the two-day soccer competition. Communities that took part in the two-day soccer competition included Old Road, Duport Road, ELWA, GSA Road, and Barshu Old Timers, among others.

In the championship game, United Brothers of Old Road defeated GSA Road 2-0; Christian Wesseh and Josephus G. Thompson two goals secure the victory and the trophy for their team.

The founder and Executive Director of the National Road Safety, Mr. Philip Woods, stated that the organization’s goal is to support the government of Liberia’s efforts to make sure that human capacity building continues to be a top priority. He pointed out that the development of human capability depends on public-private partnerships, and as a result, his institution aims to support the national development agenda.

Mr. Woods mentioned that the country’s extensive training of motorcycle riders is intended to impart knowledge to them, particularly in the area of the sustainability of the peace process. He added that riding a motorcycle is not a career and encouraged them to develop their human capability. Mr. Woods cautioned the riders to keep a positive outlook in order to erase all disparaging titles given to motorcycles throughout Liberia, stressing that members would become free of all sorts of violence.

NASAPAL’s soccer division was created to promote soccer as a means of promoting national road safety awareness, Liberian government legislation, and the UN-proclaimed declaration action for road safety.

With the goal of reducing traffic fatalities by 50% by the year 2030 through sports, civic education, and recreation, NASAPAL Inc. was established in 2013 by Mr. Woods. According to a task given by the entity, over 85% of road users in Liberia are ignorant of government ordinances, making vulnerable people feel marginalized and resulting in an increase in the lack of respect for law and order, violence, and the destruction of lives, private property, and public property. The program’s goal is to establish a nationwide program for motorcycle safety training.

The nation’s youngsters are being strengthened and given the opportunity to grow through a variety of educational programs designed to foster academic achievement. The program’s soccer component was formally introduced on January 21, 2023, at the Paynesville-based Alpha Old Timers Sports Association.
