The passing of former Health Minister, Dr. Walter Gwenigale, has taken several sons and daughters of Bong County and Liberia at large in sending their condolence messages to friends and family members of the late statesman.
The latest Gwenigale is from the leadership of the United Bong County Association in The Americas. In a press release approved by the president of the Association, Mr. Caimon Joe Kollie, on Friday, April 22, announced the association regrets the death of the renowned statesman.
UBCAA release however described Dr. Gwenigale’s passing as a great loss to the people of Bong county and the country, due to his role played in the health, education, and national development of Liberia.
“The leadership extends profound condolences to his wife, children, and the entire bereaved family. We pray that the soul of this gentle giant rests in perpetual peace with our creator. Thank you very much for your service to humanity, Dr. G. You lived a purpose-driven life- others before self, we will miss you.”, UBCAA consoles the bereaved family.
Prior to the UBCAA release, a prominent son of Bong County and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Dr. Urey-Yarkpawolo Foundation for Development, earlier described the late public servant’s death as an irreplaceable loss to Liberia.
Dr. Emmanuel Urey-Yarkpawolo in a social media post disclosed that the passing of the late Dr. Gwenigale is a big loss to the nation, Liberia. Dr. Emmanuel Urey-Yarkpawolo in his sober mood extended his condolences to the family of the late Dr. Gwenigale.
Former Minister of Health, Dr. Walter Gwenigal died at age 87 on Friday, April 22, at the John F. Kennedy (JFK) Medical Center. It is reported that the late Dr. Gwenigale underwent successful surgery last Saturday but later developed a complication.
He served as the Minister of Health during the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s regime from 2006 to 2015. Also, he served as a practicing surgeon for more than 30 years, including during the civil war. He was a Bong County health officer, director at the Phebe Hospital, and president of the Christian Health Association of Liberia.
Additionally, the late public servant served on the World Health Organization’s executive board and as a board member of the Roll Back Malaria campaign.
Dr. Gwenigale is survived by his nearly 52 years old widow, , Carmen of Puerto Rico, USA, two sons, Walter Jr, Cllr. Raymond (Stacey) and Carmen (Mike) Ogoli; five grandchildren and Michael Gwenigale, Jr, his brother’s son, who he reared.
