PRAISES PRESIDENT WEAH FOR CONCEDING DEFEAT
Monrovia, Liberia – The University Lecturers for Boakai’s Election (ULBE) has congratulated President-elect Amb. Joseph Nyuma Boakai and Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung on their victories in the presidential election that took place on November 14, 2023. A well-known professional organisation in Liberia, University Lecturers for Boakai’s Election (ULBE) brings together doctors of medicine, PhD holders, attorneys, data scientists, bankers, educators, and more.
Dr. Isaac P. Podah, the group’s president, stated during a press conference over the weekend that some of the contributing factors that led to the fall of the CDC-led government were a culture of impunity, a lack of meritocracy, systemic corruption, prebendalism, blotted bureaucracy, and an inability to distinguish between party politics and governance.
He said they have high expectations for the incoming administration and that President-elect Joseph Boakai should focus on issues like eliminating the culture of impunity, encouraging meritocracy, having zero tolerance for corruption, and simplifying bureaucracy to ensure that breaking the law and the culture of impunity are not tolerated in his administration.
“Liberia can create a climate of equitable opportunity for all by encouraging meritocracy in the public sector. We anticipate that the incoming administration will demonstrate a strong commitment to combating corruption, carry out an extensive audit of the government under the direction of the CDC and other organizations, and demand asset declarations.”
“We urge the incoming administration to tackle the problem of excessive bureaucracy, guaranteeing the timely and efficient provision of public services,” he continued.
President Weah was praised by Dr. Podah for accepting the loss, pointing out that this gesture of democratic sportsmanship highlighted the resilience of Liberia’s democratic values and its reputation abroad.
