AS GLOBAL MOVEMENT TO PRESERVE BIODIVERSITY TREMBLES

Monrovia, Liberia – Through its collaboration with Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), community-based organizations, and other organizations dedicated to environmental conservation and restoration, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme in Liberia is making noteworthy advancements in promoting sustainable development. The program aims to protect and restore the environment while enhancing the welfare and livelihoods of nearby communities by offering both financial and technical support to diverse projects.

This cooperative effort is producing notable success in the promotion and protection of biodiversity and environmental cohesion throughout the nation, Samuel Boakai, the National Coordinator of the UNDP GEF Small Grants Programme in Liberia said.

Samuel Boakai stressed the importance of the partners’ contributions when discussing the project’s success. He claimed that because of the degree of effort put out by the committed members of the UNDP GEF Small Grants Programme, the UN agency’s efforts to promote and safeguard Liberia’s rich biodiversity and environmental cohesion have seen real progress. The SGP program is significantly improving Liberia’s population welfare and protecting natural resources with partners’ diligent work.

Reforestation initiatives, the creation of community-managed protected areas, sustainable agricultural practices, renewable energy projects, and capacity-building initiatives are a few examples of projects sponsored by the program. These programs also provide local residents with chances for sustainable livelihoods, which helps reduce poverty and enhance the quality of life.

According to Mr. Boakai, the UNDP GEF Small Grants Programme encourages locals to take charge of their environmental heritage and actively contribute to its preservation. He added that the initiative is building a generation of environmental leaders who will continue to support sustainable development in the long run by encouraging a feeling of stewardship and sustainable practices.

The UNDP GEF Small Grants Programme in Liberia is a prime example of how international institutions, non-governmental organizations, and local people work together to address environmental issues. The initiative is essential in helping Liberia create a sustainable and resilient future by mobilizing resources and offering technical skills.

As the project picks up steam, it is anticipated to keep having a good influence on environmental preservation, community empowerment, and the general well-being of Liberians. Samuel Boakai said, the UNDP GEF Small Grants Programme, with partners, is setting the standard for fostering sustainable development, safeguarding biodiversity, and ensuring a bright future for all.

The National Coordinator of the UNDP GEF Small Grants Programme spoke to Reports 231 in an executive interview.
