Unity Party Leadership protest against BVR Machines in Lofa County

Lofa County – The Unity Party leadership expresses concern over the issue of malfunctioning voter registration machinery in Lofa County. At the National Elections Commission Political Session on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, Unity Party National Chairman Luther Tarpeh and Secretary General Amos Twehon brought a number of party officials and voiced their concerns regarding the malfunctioning of the biometric equipment in Lofa County.

UP Chairman Luther Tarpeh spoke to reporters at the NEC Headquarters and said that the reports of people waiting in huge lines without being registered are concerning. Due to the events in Lofa, according to Chairman Tarpeh, the NEC should think about extending the registration in the phase two counties that are experiencing comparable issues.

The complain by the Unity Party is not the first, several opposition political parties have expressed same as the new BVR process is preventing sever Liberians from taking part in the registration process. It is reported that Nimba County is also reporting the same.
