Unity Party Withdraws Case Against Speaker Koffa at Supreme Court

Monrovia, Liberia – The Unity Party has withdrawn its petition for declaratory judgment against the newly elected Speaker of the House of Representatives of the 55th Legislature, Cllr. Jonathan Fonati Koffa.

The Unity Party filed a writ of declaratory judgement against House Speaker Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa on Monday, January 15, 2024, following the election between Rep. Richard Koon and Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa, alleging that Koffa had dual citizenship.

The petition, which was filed by Unity Party’s National Chairperson Rev. Luther Tarpeh and Secretary-General Amos Tweh, alleged that Speaker Koffa is a citizen of the United States of America, and as such, the court should nullify his win as a representative of Electoral District #2 in Grand Kru County.

The petition further claims that Cllr. Koffa was not qualified to run for elective public office in the nation because he was a citizen of the United States and had a current passport.
