Encourages Stakeholders To Uphold Commitment
Monrovia, Liberia – Leonardo Santos Simão, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), ended a two-day visit to Liberia in line with his ongoing regional engagement. The Special Representative urged all authorities and stakeholders during his visit to keep their dedication for inclusive discourse, advancement of human rights and rule of law.
Mr. Joseph Nyuma Boakai, President of the Republic of Liberia, welcomed him in audience of Minister of Foreign Affairs Madam Sara Beysolow Nyanti. Along with the ECOWAS Ambassador to Liberia, he also convened talks with Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Madam Gbeme Horace-Kollie and past Presidents of Liberia, Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and Mr. George Manneh Weah.
Simão commended Liberia’s progress in promoting youth and gender equality and encouraged the authorities to include more women and youth groups in the political processes and development efforts.
Along with members of the diplomatic corps, the UNOWAS Representative also spoke with Civil society groups and the UN country staff. He urged the development partners to keep helping Liberia in overcoming obstacles by means of ownership and also the civil society to foster complete citizen involvement in the development process under control of expectations.
The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for West Africa and the Sahel underlined once more the United Nations’ political will to keep supporting Liberia’s road towards social cohesiveness, peace, and prosperity.
