In light of Reverend Luther Tarpeh’s warning to the NEC and National Security Agencies to act morally ahead of the general and presidential elections in 2023, the National Elections Commission and State security agencies are once again in the public eye. The National Security, according to Chairman Tarpeh, serves the interests of the elite rather than the general public’s safety.
Rev. Tarpeh underlined that the alteration in dates for significant national events across the nation by NEC officials severely concerns the Unity Party’s leadership. He mentioned the NEC’s alteration of the voter registration deadline as well as other transgressions.
In his remarks to a group of reporters on Monday, January 2, 2023, in Paynesville, Rev. Tarpeh said the NEC is currently in charge of maintaining the state’s peace and security, as such the institution should always act in a positive manner. He also stressed that the Unity Party is extremely concerned because the NEC has the potential to push the nation into a constitutional crisis, which the Unity Party will not tolerate.
The Unity Party Chairman, at the same time cautioned the National Election Commission (NEC) headed by Mad. Davidetta Brown Lassana to do the right thing by putting the right measures in place as the country goes to 2023 critical Elections. Chairman Tarpeh statement is at the results of the continues postponement of bi-mentray voter registration date which is one of the cardinal aspect of the impending elections this year, 2023. He called on the commissioners at the National Elections Commission to put the country interest ahead of their personal gains.
However, according to Rev. Tarpeh, more opposition personalities will be joining the Unity Party by March of this year in an effort to topple President Weah’s six-year tenure.
The UP Chairman claimed that Ambassador Joseph Nyumah Boakai is the only rival who has a chance of defeating President George Weah in the upcoming elections.
